Myrte Wennen (Zwolle, 1994) finished her master’s degree in Technical Medicine at the University of Twente in 2020. She is currently a PhD-student at both the Intensive Care department of the Radboud university medical centre, and the department of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Her research involves (quantitative) MRI of the respiratory muscles in mechanically ventilated intensive care patients under the supervision of Oliver Gurney-Champion, Aart Nederveen and Leo Heunks. As a Technical Physician, she is focused on bringing research as close as possible to clinical practice. In 2024, she was granted a two-year fellowship from the Hanarth Fonds (Stichting Hanarth Fonds – € 6 miljoen toegekend voor de zesde call van het Hanarth Fonds!). During this fellowship, starting in April 2025, she will integrate deep learning techniques for quantitative MRI in clinical and research workflows, to enhance personalized medicine for cancer patients.
Next to her work in research, she is a board member of the Dutch Association for Technical Physicians (NVvTG, www.nvvtg.nl), where she is fully committed to improving the inclusion of technical physicians in clinical practice.
