Diogo Fernandes

Diogo Fernandes (1998) was born in Lisbon, Portugal, where he studied Physics Engineering for
both a Bachelors and Masters at NOVA School of Science and Technology | FCT – NOVA. After his

Masters, he worked for a full year in the Champalimaud Foundation in a pre-clinical setting focused
on diffusion MRI, where he got acquainted with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) basics,
acquisition and processing of medical images as well as in handling and experimental work with
rodents.
Since 2023 he has been a PhD Student at Amsterdam UMC, moving to a clinical setting and focusing
on approaches to evaluate cerebrovascular hemodynamic system and brain oxygen metabolism in
patients with chronic anemia, specifically Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), harnessing MRI and Arterial Spin
Labelling (ASL) techniques to find relevant biomarkers.
